How to Protect Yourself Against Bed Bugs
You know how the old saying goes — good night, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite! Bed bugs are back with a vengeance, so the last part of that phrase is becoming more and more difficult to accomplish. Here’s how to keep bed bugs from infesting your home.
Travel Tips
If you travel, even infrequently, be on the lookout for bed bugs in your hotel. A simple inspection of the hotel bed can reveal pests quickly. Look for bugs and brown spots, and if you see anything, find a new hotel! As you are searching, be sure to put your luggage on a luggage rack or other hard surface, not the bed. It’s also a good idea to look up reviews for hotels before you travel, as many websites are now tracking bed bug reports.
Bed Bug Prevention at Home
An easy way to keep bugs out of your bed is to invest in a mattress cover. If you do end up with a bed bug infestation, at least your mattress will be safe. Look for a brand that has good reviews, and is designed to actually keep bugs out.
Keep clutter to a minimum in your home, giving bed bugs fewer places to hide, and if you do need pest control to handle a bed bug infestation, it will minimize the amount of cleanup work needed.
Don’t wait to contact a pest control company. Even if you’re not sure, getting control of the situation is much harder if you wait longer. If you are even remotely concerned, schedule an inspection to see if there are signs of bed bugs before it turns into a full blown infestation.
A pest control company will also be able to tell you what to look for at home and away, and eradicate any bed bug infestations that you have not been able to prevent.
